Top 100 Tools for Learning: Feedly

2019TopTools.png

Last week Arboth was present at the "Top 100 Learning Tools"-event
organized by Stimulearning and FOD BOSA (Federal Public Service - Policy and Support).
Our colleague Karen Philips presented Feedly as a tool for Personal Knowledge Mastery.

Feedly?

Number one issue Karen wanted to see resolved in her day to day activities?
The amount of time she spends surfing the internet!

All sorts of news websites both national and international, blogs regarding (e-)Learning, Development, Learning Technology but also individual twitter accounts and so on: Karen has read them all. But of course, not all of them need to be read in depth and not all of them are even coming close to being relevant.

Enter Feedly:

Feedly is a robust feed reader that aggregates information from around the web into one convenient place. You can use it to view updates on any topic you're interested in, whether they come from the news, blogs, social media posts, RSS feeds, or other sources. The primary benefit of a feed reader like Feedly is that you get to see all of this information in one single place rather than having to visit each website, blog, etc., to get updates. You can use Feedly from your computer, the web, or your mobile device.

What does your feed look like?

The tool alone will not help you. It is all about finding the right content for you:

  • What are your main interests?

  • What topics do you wish to know more about?

  • Who are the people that inspire you?

It’s all about discovering and following quality, trusted sources
that make you smarter and give you deeper insights into the changes happening in the marketplace.

Karen is a Learning Consultant at Arboth and thus interested in all things 'learning'. She is following blogs from Pedro De Bruyckere, the Rapid eLearning blog, Harold Jarche, Julian Stodd, Jane Hart and so on.

Feedly as a tool for Personal Knowledge Mastery (PKM):

The Personal Knowledge Mastery -framework, created by Harold Jarche, is all about "Seek, Sense, Share".

  • Seek: be intentional about what you want to learn > Have a look at the tips above: Who or what has your interest? What is your focus?

  • Sense: What do you wish to do with the information? Do you understand the information? Did you learn something from it? File it somewhere / Categorise, so you can search for it when you would need it later on.

  • Share: Who would benefit from the new information? Could you share your new insights with somebody else?

Feedly is a tool that can help you with all of these steps in the PKM framework.

Personal Knowledget Mastery in Arboth's aXles methodology:

Learning in organisations has many faces: Personal Knowledge Management  is one of them.
Feedly is a tool that can eXpose you to new information and help you eXplore that content intentionally.
However, Feedly can also help you start to eXchange that information and so to eXpand your own knowledge and the knowledge of your network or community.
